Lontong is a dish made of compressed rice that is cut into dumplings. It is popular in Indonesia and Malaysia, usually served cold or at room temperature, although it can be eaten as an accompaniment to other dishes.

Lontong is traditionally made by boiling rice until it is partially cooked and pressing it into a rolled-up banana leaf. The leaf is secured and cooked in boiling water for about 90 minutes. When the compacted rice has cooled, it can be cut into suitable size pieces for eating.
